Day 065/365 The Mystery of the Squeaking Latch

06/03/2010 A Superfix by SuperPea.

We have had the most annoying squeak from our Opel for some time now and the Forum wasn't that helpful but gave me the idea that it might be the bushings. So in desperation I took him to my little man down the road who said "No, I think it's from somewhere inside the dash but if it's all got to come apart I'd take it to Vauxhalls as it's still under warranty."

A depressing thought in my current state of mind towards dealers but hey ho if it's got to be done. But before I rand them up I thought one last look at the Saturn forum just to see if anyone had been helpful and WOW...

Someone had posted the exact same noise from "behind the air bag/dash area" explaining that he' had found it to be the bonnet latch twittering in its catch, and the fix for him being to lower the rubber stop. When I looked I could see the latch was plastic covered when new but now worn to bare metal, so I covered ours with insulation tape and now it is silent.

Peace, wonderful peace.

Groovy word of the day: perseverance.
