Morgan Factory Tour (Second Visit)

Posted by Adrian Ainsworth on August 21, 2010 at 3:13 AM Comments comments (0)

On Monday 16th August our friends Ray and Gail were over from Lincolnshire visiting. It is unusual for them to be here during the week so we took the opportunity to visit the Morgan factory which is not open at weekends. The tour lasts about 2 and a half hours and costs a tenner. However, it is well worth it and you get a fascinating insight into how the cars are put together and the work that goes into producing a Morgan. Having done a few tours of the MINI factory, this is all the more fascinatng as the manufacturing methods are chalk and cheese! Smeeling the wood in the timber department, watching the bonnets being hand made and shaped and seeing the old jigs used to shape the ash into shape for the rear wings is just a delight and inevitably it all sews a seed of desire!

But remember, Morgan is all things to all men, classic timeless styling with their Roadsters, Plus 4s and 4/4s gives them a past and a heritage, yet  cars such as the new Aero SuperSports and the Eva GT see them firmly making their mark on the future.

Cotswolds 8 - a Total MINI Run

Bob - aka Soggycornflakes from Total MINI organised this years run around the Cotswolds. This event has run for 8 years now and in the hey day of MINI runs it was always the biggest run of the year attracting 120 plus MINIs. This year it was a more intimate affair with less than 20 MINIs turning up for the run.

It was no less fun though. The roads were excellent, the pace was brisk, the lunch stop at  Kingham Hill School was as lovely as ever and the weather held fine. We took CooperBeast for the day out as his pace and speed are perfectly matched to events such as this and he did not disappoint - he loved it as much as we did.

However, he did develop a problem with his electric power steering pump which would not switch off at all. As a precaution we left the run after lunch but got home safe and sound. Peanut will spend tomorrow trying to remove the pump and clean it up - fingers crossed it does the trip.

Anyway a great day out and fingers crossed we'll be there next year!

We just did a tour of the Morgan factory in Malvern and have to comment on how impressed we were.  The tour is very well organised, informative and shows you all the factory warts and all. It was a joy to see how these wonderful cars are built and if we weren't  sure before, we are now - we'd love a Morgan! Do the tour - it's a must!

Movie of The Week 29/06/2010

Breakfast at Goodwood

27/06/2010. Sunday saw us up bright and early for Soft top Sunday at Goodwood. Wow what a turn out, I'm guessing but I don't think a thousand cars would be an exaggeration. Only last week our car of the week was a 507 BMW and there in the flesh was a 507 soft top - a beautiful and rare car indeed. But truly there were some beauties there, it was automotive overload with the beautiful weather ensuring the huge turn out! Awesome morning - shame about the footie!

Another morning at the Breakfast Club at RAF Cosford. Every time we visit there is always something different to catch our eye. This time round it was the classic Porsche 911s that stole the show for us!

Day 171/365 Midlands Breakfast Club

20/06/2010. This event is held at RAF Cosford near Telford. Every time we go there is always something different to interest us. Porsche 911s are the flavour of the week with us right now and there was quite a collection of lovely examples on display.

Groovy word of the day: Carrera
